Time waits for no Traveller

Image

I'm late! I'm late! How often do you hear this in society today, especially where travelling is concerned? Why are we so stressed about time in the modern world? It seems that the more one focuses on time, the less time one has!
Everywhere I go at the moment, I’m constantly bumping into people who don’t have time; their words and not mine! No time to meet, no time to relax, no time to take time, with crazy claims like we are running out of time. How is this possible when many psychologists believe that time is actually a mind created illusion?
So let’s solve this time riddle once and for all in practical Perpetual Traveller terms. The first thing to understand is that man-invented time and it’s not something that naturally exists, except in the illusionary world of our minds. In fact most people on planet earth today perceive time in Newtonian Physics terms. Sir Isaac suggested that time is like a river flowing uniformly forward. Where we are on the river rig…

Amusing double-meanings to cheer you up

In these rather depressing times of austerity, here is something to bring a smile to your face!
A pun is best described as a humorous message that exploits 2 words or expressions sounding the same with two different meanings (usually with 2 different spellings). Puns are in fact one of the great wonders of the English language.

For anyone who seeks to demonstrate the confusing nature of English words and phrases, these examples of funny and clever puns will likely serve your needs. 100% reliable contraception is inconceivable! Serious campers are intense. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana. Sports people can avoid the pain of defeat by wearing comfortable shoes. Nut screws washers and bolts. (Headline following a laundrerette sex crime) Poetry written upside-down is inverse; poetry of very few lines is universal. A girl who screamed and shouted for a pony got a little hoarse. The carpenter's heavy tools were uncomfortable so he got a little sore. Nuns generally we…

The European Austerity Poem

Image
As a historical European economic crisis unfolds before our very eyes and we see a shift of real power move to Asia, here is a fitting poem that I wrote to capture the light side of this new reality:

Who will tell the Greeks they will have to go Bust?
It seems that the euro may no more be a Must!
It's the EU austerity answer to prevailing economic disaster,
Tax more of the same and cut everything that we Trust.
---
Emotionally complex Italians are beginning to Shrink!
And who will inform the Swiss they are no longer in Sync?
Regardless of grandiose desires, it now bitterly transpires,
That the once ice cool will soon fade, melt or Sink!
---
There's nothing like the sound of the shallow jumping in at the Deep!
As the countries on the edge are beginning to Weep!
Seeking a Political womb or Troika counseling room,
In the end, the people contribute more than they Keep!
---
Who will advise the non-elected EU commissions they were never in Demand?
And that the power of the vote should be the only C…

Worldwide Security Report - Week Five 2017

Greetings from Bahrain!

Here I am working on the Bahrain Cruise Strategy, focusing on how to empower greater engagement between Cruise visitors and the hospitable culture the people on the island, whereby nearly 60% of the location population is actually from Bahrain! Pearl diving, visits to Arabian Horse ranches and being welcomed into a locals home to learn an authentic cooking style are just some of the new highlights on my agenda. Local hospitality is also reflected in the new brand identity ‘Ours. Yours. Bahrain’ which embraces the country’s biggest asset, its people – their warmth and welcoming attitude!

As you will see below, last week was extremely busy on the security agenda, in part thanks to Mr. Trump!

Here below is one of the most comprehensive updated worldwide reports on Security for all Perpetual Traveller's out there!

The World’s Worst Tourism Slogans

Image
It seems like every country or region in the world these days is a "Wanna Be" when it comes to Tourism. New market are constantly opening with new authorities getting in on the act. This in turn points a lot of people that don't really know what they are doing along with some spectacularly bad slogans!
Here are s few World's Worst contenders: Hilton: “Travel should take you places” - Indeed it should, but for a major Hotel chain it's rather a pointless statement. Perhaps Travel could “take you some place fascinating”. One only wonders how many people stayed at the Hilton because "Travel should take you places?". Fargo, North Dakota’s “Always Warm!” - They are having a laugh! Anyone that has actually been there knows it’s warm in the summer and hellish cold for the remainder of the year. Perhaps this slogan was referring to the Hospitality, however  it does not say that!British Colombia’s  “The Best Place on Earth” - Words like ambitious come to mind or e…

10 Best Ski Resorts for Late Season Snow & Spring Skiing

Image
3 reasons why should you ocnsider Skiing in Spring?
1. It’s cheaper
Late season is low season, so lift passes and accommodation cost considerably less than during mid-winter.

2. It’s quieter
Skiing and snowboarding in late season means fewer people on the slopes, and less chance of lift queues.

3. It’s sunnier
In general the weather is more pleasant towards the end of the winter – so you can expect more sun, longer daylight hours, and longer lift opening times; enjoy the bbqs and beer drinking that takes place on the sun terraces of slope-side cafes and bars.

However, it's not uncommon to get cold weather and heavy snow even in May, so don’t assume that the sun will definitely have his hat on, and always come prepared for cold, snowy weather.

Tips for late season trips
The general rule when selecting a resort to go late season skiing is: head high, or head north. The higher the altitude of the ski area, the colder it is, and therefore the longer the snow lasts, so ideally, a…
