Massive UK Strike Disrupts Services

A massive strike by more than 2 million public sector workers in the UK has caused schools to close and hospitals to virtually cease operation. Among those striking over cuts to public sector pensions are UK Border Agency staff, probation officers, radiographers, court staff, garbage collectors, customs officers, police civilian staff and a wide variety of other public services affecting nearly all aspects of everyday life. Rallies and protest marches are expected to happen across the country.


Spain calls in military to deal with air traffic controllers strike

The Spanish government has confirmed Friday that the military will take control of the country's air traffic control following an unannounced strike by Spain's air traffic controllers that has caused chaos in the country.

An emergency cabinet meeting of the Spanish Government decided to send military air-traffic controllers to the airports of Seville, Madrid, Barcelona and in the Canary Islands as a result of the lightening strike that led to the country's airspace being closed.

Air traffic controllers all over Spain walked out without prior warning at 5 p.m. local time in an action that left planes stranded on the tarmac all over the country.

The Spanish Ministry of Defense has sent personnel to the airports of Valladolid, Murcia, Salamanca, Talavera de la Reina, Badajoz, Leon, Zaragoza and Albacete.

Larnaca Airport on Strike from 15th and 24th of October

The new International Airport of Larnaca is likely to be shut down by force coming from its own staff, due to an ongoing protest that challenges the daily use of metal detectors. which are in place like in many destinations across the world for security reasons. The planned dates for the protes are as follows:
15th of October  10-hours strike from 9:00am till 5:00pm 24th of October  24-hours strike from 9:00am
Airport workers claim, that they have rights to change the metal detector security check for a manual check.
Larnaca Airport Workers seem to be convinced that exposure to everyday electro-magnetic waves can negatively affect their health. A

 Staff Union appeal indicated
 that the Government was informed and given a month to resolve the problem, yet no action action had been taken,.

What is interesting here is that the principle of using a metal detector security test is not against any European or Cypriot law.
