Songkran is the most important feast for Thai people and is celebrated widely throughout the country. Often called 'Water' Festival", Songkran is the ancient New Year's Day happening mid-April. Now the official New Year's Day happens the 1st January.

In Bangkok, the Buddha image "Buddhasihing" is brought out from the National Museum for people to sprinkle lustral water at Sanam Luang, opposite the Grand Palace. During Thai New Year parade Buddha statues are settled on cars. People sprinkle holy water on the statue to purify it.

April is the fourth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars, and one of 4 months with a length of 30 days.

April is commonly associated with the season of spring in the Northern hemisphere synonymous with April showers and autumn in the Southern hemisphere, where it's the seasonal equivalent to October in the Northern hemisphere and vice versa.

The derivation of the Latin name April is is uncertain. The traditional etymology is from the verb aperire, "to open," in allusion to its being the season when trees and flowers begin to "open," which is supported by comparison with the modern Greek use of anoixis for spring.

Melrose Sevens 2014, Melrose, Scotland

Rugby Sevens was founded in Melrose in 1883. The game of rugby 7's is now played on an international stage from Hong Kong to Scotland and is testimony to its founder in the Scottish Borders town, Ned Haig.

2014 will be the 124th playing of the Melrose Sevens and it is proposed to continue an extended tournament with guest teams coming from far and near. The town of Melrose takes on a carnival atmosphere with the day being considered a main social date in the sporting calendar. To complement the main Melrose 7s tournament other attractions are being planned for the international event.

The ten most prestigious of the Borders tournaments make up a league competition known as the Kings of the Sevens. Teams competing gain points depending on how far they progress in each tournament, the winner gains 10 points, runner up 7 points, semi-finalists 5 points and teams who are eliminated at the quarter final stage gain 3 points.

Commonly associated with Valentine’s Day, lovers and friends exchange roses and books to show affection. Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2014, California, USA

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (commonly known as Coachella, Coachellafest, or Coachella Festival) is an annual three-day music and arts festival, founded by Paul Tollett, organized by Goldenvoice.

The event features many music genres, including rock, indie, hip hop, and electronic music, as well as sculpture. The festival showcases popular and established musical artists, as well as emerging artists and reunited groups.

Amsterdam will celebrate King’s Day (Koningsdag) for the first time in 2014, after the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander on 30 April 2013 (what was then still Queen’s Day).

The royal celebrations were first held on 31 August 1885 in honour of the birth of Queen Wilhelmina, and the Queen’s Day (Koninginnedag) tradition was born. After Wilhelmina’s daughter (Juliana) succeeded to the throne in 1949, the day was changed to 30 April in accordance with the new Queen's birthday.
When she became queen, the now Princess Beatrix chose to retain the day in honour of her mother but as of 2014, King’s Day will officially be celebrated on 27 April (the king’s birthday). However, the event is traditionally not celebrated on a Sunday which means that the first King’s Day will be held on Saturday, 26 April 2014.  The name may have changed slightly but the festive spirit of the day is sure to remain! Time Warp 2014, Mannheim, Germany

The idea behind Time Warp is pretty straight-forward: Take about 50 house and techno DJs, throw them in a multi-floor venue with space for 20,000+ ravers, and let the whole thing roll for a solid 15 hours.

This simple formula has served them well since the mid-'90s, when Time Warp held its first editions in cities around Germany. The 2014 lineup features numerous top DJ's, which reflects the Festival's continued success.

For a music event on such enormous scale, it still feels like a family affair!

Tribeca Film Festival 2014, Lower Manhattan, New York, USA

The Tribeca Film Festival is a film festival that was founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff, reportedly in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the consequent loss of vitality in the TriBeCa neighborhood in Lower Manhattan; although there are reports that its founding was in the works prior to the events of 9/11.

The mission of the festival is "to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience." The Tribeca Film Festival was founded to celebrate New York City as a major film-making center and to contribute to the long-term recovery of lower Manhattan.

Each day the fiesta begins with the parade of carriages and riders, at midday, carrying Seville's leading citizens which make their way to the bullring, the La Real Maestranza, where the bullfighters and breeders meet. 
For the duration of the fair, the fairgrounds, a vast area is on the far bank of the Guadalquivir River, are totally covered in rows of casetas (individual decorated marquee tents which are temporarily built on the fairground).
