Hamilton International Airport celebrates the opening of the new Air Cargo Centre

John C Munro Hamilton International Airport has celebrated the official opening of its new C$12 million Air Cargo Centre.

The Federal and Ontario governments joined with Hamilton’s Municipal Government, TradePort International Corporation and Cargojet Airways to celebrate yesterday's official opening.

Joint funding of the 77,000 square foot facility was announced in January 2013 and will support the expansion of cargo operation at the airport, and stimulate job creation and economic development for the City of Hamilton and greater region.

“We’re thrilled with the new Cargo Centre and look forward to the opportunities it will help facilitate at John C Munro Hamilton International Airport,” said airport president and CEO, Frank Scremin.

“This facility will allow us to maintain Hamilton International Airport’s dominant presence in the overnight express cargo segment in Canada, and create new opportunities to diversify the types of goods that can be processed through the airport.”

Dignitaries at opening ceremony included Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, and MP Haldimand-Norfolk; Honourable Liz Sandals, Minister of Education and MPP Guelph; Dean Allison, MP Niagara West-Glanbrook; Wayne Marston, MP Hamilton East – Stoney Creek; Brenda Johnson, Councillor Ward 11; Lloyd Ferguson, Councillor Ward 12.
