February is derived from the Latin word "februum" which means purification from the the purification ritual called Februa that was held on February 15th in the old lunar Roman calendar.

When most people think of February, usuallyValentine's Day springs to mind, however there is a lot more to look forward to in February 2015, even though it's the shortest month of the year. February is packed with many Holidays, Sporting events, Carnivals, and celebrations of Historic events around the world.

Of course February also marks the pinnacle of Carnival season around the world, the greatest Carnival of all being in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Ski lovers will no doubt flock to the slopes across Europe this February in and around the Alps.

Each year thousands of people trek to the remote mountainous town of Pingxi for this unforgettable event that culminates with the release of thousands of lanterns simultaneously.

Traditionally lanterns were used in the past as a means of communication during war, but lantern launching has become of symbol of peace and good fortune, with wishes written and placed inside before their release into the heavens.

Chinese New Year 2015 in London celebrates the Year of the Goat 

London's celebrations of the Chinese New Year are the largest outside Asia with hundreds of thousands of people descending on the West End every year. Festivities commence in the morning with a parade of colorful floats and beating drums, in Trafalgar Square through Chinatown and ending in Rupert Street.

On the main stage in Trafalgar Square there is an opening celebration that sees the Dotting of the Eye ceremony, which will bring the dragons and lions to life and is followed by with stage performances and special guests. Chinatown is the focal point of the New Year party with food and craft stalls line the streets and a lion dance snakes through the crowds. A stunning fireworks display marks the end of the day's celebrations.

Year of the Goat
